Mobile App Trends to Look out for In 2013

Bangalore: The mobile eco-system in 2012 saw various innovations ranging from mobile apps to mobile advertising to social media. Having seen what the year 2012 was all about in the mobile eco-system, many of us are left clueless of what 2013 has in store for us. John Gaudiosi in Chicago Tribune identified some important trends in the world of mobile apps in 2013. Take a look at some of these trends.

1.    HTML5 Rising Along With Hybrid Apps
It is a known fact that native applications are not only costly to develop; however they also require a lot of time and dedication. On the other hand, John Gaudiosi feels that HTML5 which was introduced only in 2011 will become popular in 2013 as it permits developers to develop a “universal” app without developing for each operating system. It may be noted that the latest version of iOS supports HTML5 apps better.

2.    Apps for Marketing
In 2013, business organizations will see the need to develop apps for their customers. According to a survey conducted by eMarketer, consumers spend 12 percent of their media time on smartphones. It should be remembered that a good mobile strategy is important in a company’s marketing focus. Stanford in one of its surveys found that 75 percent of iPhone users take their mobile phone with them to bed. Gaudiosi feels that this behavior of iPhone users will allow marketers to intimately engage them.

3.    An Increase in Location Based Marketing
According to Gaudiosi, many marketers are aware of location based marketing; however only a few have made use of it.  With the help of this platform, marketers can target customers who pass by their stores with exciting offers.

4.    Push Notifications
Push notification is now the future for many marketers as it enables the marketer to engage his/her customers in a short span of time. When compared to e-mail or SMS notifications, push notifications offer a higher return on investment and its response rate is three times more than e-mail notifications.
