Bangalore: The mobile eco system has opened up an entire new world for app developers. We now have mobile applications for almost everything, saving us the time we spent standing in a queue in the bank, or even helping us with the recipe for our favorite dish.

The app market is thriving and the app stores are flooded with apps from various horizons. According to a survey by Gartner, in September last year the Apple App store experienced more than 21 billion downloads which is 71 percent more than the previous year. Furthermore, ABI Research ranked Apple as a top mobile app storefront ahead of Google while Microsoft was considered the most innovative.

The Consumer Electronics Show recently organized the Mobile App Showdown in Las Vegas and the developers who entered the final list got a chance to present their applications to a live audience and the winner was determined by the loudest applause reports Jaymar Cabebe on ces.cnet.com.
