Bangalore: Anywhere Software, a leading provider of developers' tools for the Android, Windows Mobile, and Pocket PC platforms, announced the release of a major upgrade to its Basic4android development platform.

Basic4android is a comprehensive, feature-rich Rapid Application Development toolbox that enables both novices and experts to develop high-performance native Android apps without the need for complex and time-consuming Java and XML programming.

"As the market share for Android-based smartphones and tablets continues to grow, so has the need for Rapid Application Development tools that simplify and accelerate time-to-revenue for Android applications. Basic4android is designed to take the learning curve out of Android development. Until now, in order to bring the next great app to the Android market, a developer had to be proficient in Java, XML and Eclipse. With Basic4android, any developer can create native, market-compatible Android applications using our simple programming language and intuitive WYSIWYG visual designer,” said Erel Uziel, CEO of Anywhere Software.

This new major upgrade includes support for class modules, which enable developers to write object-oriented code in addition to procedural code. Another key enhancement is the addition of new keywords that significantly simplify the interaction between services and activities.

"As a Visual Basic expert, Basic4android is the best software purchase I've made in a long time. Within an hour of installing I had a fully functional application running on both my phone and tablet. I'd been working over three days on writing the same thing using more traditional Android programming tools and Java,” Dylan Palmer.

The development platform supports all Android phones and tablets and contains a GUI designer with built-in support for multiple screens and orientations. To date, the platform has been used to develop hundreds of advanced applications including: SQL databases, GPS, Serial ports (Bluetooth), Camera, XML parsing, Web services (HTTP), JSON, Animations, Network (TCP/IP ), Text To Speech (TTS), Voice Recognition, WebView, AdMob and Graphics and Services.
