5 Tips to Get Your App Featured On Google Play
Bangalore: The number of Android app is increasing day by day, and at present with more the 6 million apps available in the android market, a user may get lost while browsing through the app store. A dream for the developers is to secure a coveted position in Google Play. However, the company has not provided any criteria for apps to be selected in the “Editor’s Choice”.
Dan Galpin a Developer Advocate and Ian Lewis a Senior Developer Advocate at the recently concluded Google I/O Conference provided few tips on how to get an app featured on the Google app store.
1. High Resolution
Gaplin and Lewis advised developers to ensure their apps are presented in High Resolution, atleast 720 px. However, for the Honeycomb Android OS, they advised developers not to run on Compatibility Mode as the graphics wouldn’t be clear.
2. Keep the Android buttons as it is
They strongly advised android developers to keep the Android buttons on the screen as it is and not to remove them. But they can change the brightness to make it invisible while playing games.
3. Respect the User Lifestyle
Developers should ensure that the android app doesn’t start playing sound when the device is locked or resume automatically after being paused. Furthermore, apps shouldn’t get access to various phone features such as contacts and calendars and it shouldn’t be able to access the SMS service of the phone where the user can be charged.
4. Reliability
Another important factor, which will determines if the app will feature on Google Play or not is Reliability. To ensure that the app is reliable, the developer needs to test the app on various android phones to ensure that the app behaves in the same way.
5. Localize the Title
Localizing the apps title into various foreign languages would increase discoverability. If localizing the title in many languages is not possible, they advised localizing it in atleast English and the Korean language, as Koreans enjoy playing games in the Android platform.
