Technical Lead at Sony India
I belong to a small happy family in kolkata. My father is a retired school teacher and my mom is a classical music teacher. My kid sister is doing her bachelors and my spouse is an Electronics Engineer doing a govt job.And I live in Bangalore with my family.
The Journey So Far:
I started my career as a mobile games developer at a small start up company at Goa in 2006.Then I opted for a career in application development domain and joined Sasken where I started working in Android and still I am on the same track.Presently I am working as Android Technical Lead at Sony.
Plans For The Future:
I would like to stick to the Technical path.Hence I would like to shape my career as Architect to Sr.Architect while being updated with latest mobile technological (Android ,iOs,BlackBerry,Metro)practices and trends.
I would recommend developer.android.com , stackoverflow and forums from Vogella or marakana for Android application development and learning.
The Decisions That Matter
I started my career as mobile games developer(j2me) and from there I have switched to application development(Android) path which turned out to be quite a lucky for me as I got more opportunity to learn about new technologies and trends.
My role model is my high school Teacher who used tell "Perseverance is the key to Success" and it inspired me during my days of struggle in IT industry. For example when I left my comfort zone (games development) and started as a fresher in Android application development.
You need a die-hard passion for the work you are doing to be successful.
I would brush up by basic technological skills and will keep myself networked to get the best of the industry.
I have developed a Mobile Game "Crazy Monkey" which was the top seller games in China in year of 2007. And I had worked on Xperia10(Eclair-Froyo) code base which is in the market now.
Working Life Management:
I apply Agile methods in both of my personal and professional work management where ever applicable.I believe in regular retrospection and planinng accordingly.
Degrees That Matter:
Well for Android I have no recommendation. As Android is a flavored JAVA , I would recommend SCJP certification for basic java programming skill which will help during design implementation of app.
I am working as a Technical Lead at Sony and also a Certified Scrum Master who plays a role of scrum master for my development team.
My role is designing and developing application for Android platform and provide cross team consultancy through R&D when ever needed.
Advice For New Professionals:
I would say dont think about Android , Blackberry or the iOS or the Windows as I feel basically they all the same. Just pick any of them stick to it at least for couple of years and then start exploring other. It will be easier to understand the other platform as soon u master one of them.
I do read blogs , forums and books to keep ahead with the industry growth. And I do knowledge sharing sessions to technically groom peers and friends. I do brain storming with my peers that helps me to understand my lack of knowledge and pursue to get the same.
